What is robotic surgery?
Robotic surgery is also referred to as robot-assisted surgery. The surgeon controls the robot’s movements through a console and can access smaller areas that are more difficult to access and perform complex, precise movements through the use of the robot. A surgical robot uses sophisticated computers and software that together with a trained robotic surgeon allow for a high degree of precision and accuracy.

What are the advantages of robotic surgery?
Robotic surgery is associated with significant advantages, especially when used for complex gynaecological surgery. As robotic surgery uses much smaller incisions compared to open surgery, the recovery period usually is faster and more comfortable, and most patients can get back to their regular routines much sooner. Smaller incisions also mean there’s less risk of infection or further complications.
Robotic systems can reduce movements by up to ten times, allowing for more precision and control. This technology is also able to assist the surgeon during operations through camera control and stabilisation, allowing Dr Kothari to perform procedures without other factors (such as the interference of patient breathing movements) having an impact.
What should I expect if I need robotic surgery?
